I Have Mold! Now What?

    Traditional Remediation – Gross physical removal of contaminated porous surfaces. Containment, negative air pressure, HEPA vacuum, wipe down, scrub, lightly sand, second HEPA vacuum, air scrubbing.  Relatively inexpensive, efficient, effective means to treat mold and bacteria contamination.  Does require repairs and inconvenience.  Disinfectant has a pleasant but noticeable odor. Anabec Systems or Fiberlock 1000 & 6100 – Used in conjunction with traditional remediation in the wipe down/disinfection process.  Applied with airless sprayer, has stain-fighting capabilities.  Great for attics and basement/crawlspace ceilings (sub flooring and floor joists).  When used in conjunction with Anabec encapsulant (X70) and after pre and post testing have been completed, Anabec offers a 10-year warranty guarding against future fungal growth.  Requires full-face respirator during application.  Hydrogen- peroxide base

      Anabec  - Mold inhibitive coating applied with airless sprayer to new construction materials (i.e. new studs,plywood/sheathing, sub flooring, furring, etc.).  Anabec is very specific in the application oft his product.  Full face respirator necessary for application

      Baking Soda Blasting & Dry Ice Blasting –Extremely effective but very job specific method of remediation.  To be used in unoccupied buildings on framing, sheathing and/or masonry. Requires full-face respirator during use as well as large amounts of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Requires air compressor rental and media to operate.  Use on expansive areas of mold contaminated wood surfaces.  Extensive clean up should be figured into cost

      MBF-500 – Military designed disinfectant applied via fogging device. Similar to Anabec systems however it is a two part, extremely potent solution.  Full PPE is required for use.  Great in unoccupied buildings, to be used on all surfaces (watch carpet and clothing of course).  Consider it a polisher as well as to be used in conjunction with traditional remediation methods.

      Duct Cleaning –  HVAC placed under negative air, scrubber with a roto-brush and then treated with EnviroCon or similar disinfectant.

      Airsource 3000 or Like Product– For those that choose not to remediate, or for tenants where landlords will not pay remediation costs, people with allergies and no visible mold, crawlspaces that are to osmall to be treated, animal smells, pollen etc. Also can be sold post remediation as a preventative measure.  Filterless appliance (black in color) that uses Photohydroionization to reduce airborne bacteria and mold as well as gases and odors.  Three-year warranty, 0.5amps, covers 1000 to 3000 square feet.
